殺人事件
今日はカレー日和だと空を見上げる整（ととのう）は、多数のヘリコプターやざわめく人たちの影を見つめる。
キッチンに戻り、煮込み再開と料理をしているとピンポーンと鳴った。
すみません大家ですが、と声をかけられて、煮込んだ鍋を気にしながら出ると大隣署の薮と言います、と警察手帳を見せられる。
名前の呼び方を聞かれて整ですと答えると何その名前、と若い刑事が吹き出した。
昨夜の10時頃どこにいましたかと聞かれて家にいましたけどカレー作ってたんで、と整。
お一人で？と聞かれて一人です、と答えた後、朝からなんか騒がしいけど事件ですかと尋ねる整。
そこの公園でご遺体が見つかってね寒河江健さん知ってるね、と薮。
同じ大学の寒河江ですか、と答える整にあんまり驚かないねお話を伺いたいんで署まで来てもらえますかと薮。
全然親しくないんで何も知りませんけど、と整が言うととりあえずお願いしますよ、と言われる。
火を消すので待ってください、と部屋に戻る整。
警察につき、整と薮が話していると青砥が入ってきて寒河江とは高校時代同じクラスですよね、と言った。
彼はあなたから見てどう言う人物でしたか、質問される整。
金持ちのボンボンです父親が何かの社長で親戚に議員さんがいてこづかいたくさんもらってて、ちゃらくて派手でモテモテで、とすらすら答える整。
悪意のある言い方だ、彼が嫌いだった？と聞かれて、あまり近寄りたくないタイプでした、寒河江は殺されていて僕が犯人だと疑われているんですか、と質問する。
目撃者がいるんだよ、君と寒河江くんが言い争っているのを見た人がいる、と聞いた整はそれは人違いですと言った。
君の頭は特徴的だよねだから君にたどり着いた、と話す薮。
公園って西郷坂公園ですかあそこ暗いのによくはっきり見えましたね僕はどんな服を着てました？皆さんはその目撃者のことよく知ってるんですか、と質問する整。
善意の第三者だよ、と聞いた整は僕と立場一緒ですよね皆さんがよく知らない人物、それなのにどうしてその人が本当のことを言っていて僕の方が嘘ついてるって思えるんですか、と問いかける。
わざわざ名乗り出て嘘をつくメリットが、と反論する青砥にあるかもしれないでしょう、と整。
君は落ち着いているな殺人の疑いがかけられてるのに、も言われて何もしてませんから、何もしてない僕を冤罪に落とし込むほど警察は馬鹿じゃないと思ってますから、それとも馬鹿なんですか薮さん、と煽る整だった。
子育ての話
2日目は乙部、池本、風呂光の三人だった。
昨日の会話を思い出した整は子煩悩なんですかと乙部に聞く。
娘さんを可愛がって育てた？と聞いた整に授業参観も卒業式も行ってると池本が話した。
なのにお父さん臭いとか汚いとか洗濯物一緒に洗うなと言い出した？腹立たしいですか、と問う。
お前何はぐらかして、と言う乙部に、でもそれ娘さんのせいじゃないですから生き物としての反応ですからと整。
生き物の多くは父親と子供は一緒に暮らさない、そしたら子供が大人になって父親と知らずに会ったりする、そこで産まれた子供は遺伝子的に弱いわけです、だから遺伝子レベルで警報を出してる、娘さんの中でこの人は相手にしちゃダメだよって、その作用なんですよ娘さんが生意気とか乙部さんが臭いとかじゃないです、と説明する整。
育て方を間違ったとおっしゃった、でも逆です正しく育ってる、乙部さんの育て方は間違ってない娘さんはちゃんと大人になろうとしている、と話す整に気を削がれた乙部は気色悪い話さんじゃねえよと席を外す。
今の本当の話ですか、と池本に聞かれた整はそういう説があるってことです、僕は結構いい説だと思ってます、と言った。
おい風呂光奴の指紋もらっとけと声をかける薮。
ビクビクするな女だからってなめられんじゃねえぞ！と怒鳴られた風呂光は慌てて走る。
指紋の提出にご協力ください、と言われた整は、いいですけど大変ですね、と労った。
今はスキャナーなんだ指が真っ黒にならなくていいですね、ペットが亡くなったんですか、と話しかける整。
ちょっと目を離した隙に死んじゃった仕事休みたいとか警察の風上にもおけねーよ、と池本。
薮さんなんか奥さんと子供の死に目にも会ってない、と話す池本に猫ですか、ずっと看病してたのに目を離した一瞬になくなった？猫なら当たり前ですよ、と整が言う。
猫は貴方に死ぬところを見せたくなかったんです、猫は風呂光さんのことが大好きだから見せたくなかったんです、それは猫の矜持と思いやりです、と聞いた風呂光の目に涙が光る。
そんな自由に死ねるわけないでしょ、とおどける池本に僕は何か罪を犯した時池本さんに捕まりたくないです、風呂光さんに捕まえてもらいます、と整。
私バカにされてるんでしょうか、女だからって舐めないでください、と聞いた整はなめてませんよ、風呂光さんがなめられないように気をつけなければいけないのはこの署のおじさん達だと思います、と真面目な顔の整。
それこそが風呂光さんの存在意義だと思いますけど、と整が告げると、何とろとろやってんだ！と薮が怒鳴り込んできた。
すみません！と部屋を出る風呂光。
池本さんはどうしたんですか奥さんと喧嘩しでもしたんですか、と聞くとなんでわかるのよ！と驚く池本。
シャツはアイロンかかってないし靴は汚れてるし、昨日はそうじゃなかったんで、と答える整。
なんかヨメいっつも機嫌悪くて、と池本が言うと奥さん何ヶ月ですか、と訊ねる整。
何で知ってんのよ！と更に驚く池本は五ヶ月ですよ、と答えた。
忙しくて帰れないけどゴミ捨てはしてる、と自慢する池本にどこからですか、と聞く整。
ゴミ箱は幾つあります？と更に聞いた整はゴミ捨てはゴミを集める所から始まり、分別して袋を取り替えて、とゴミ捨てまでの話を聞かせる。
できたやつを持っていくだけ、と狼狽える池本にそれで感謝しろって言われても奥さん身体がしんどいんじゃないですか、と指摘する整に言葉を失う池本。
そこに薮が入ってきて授業出たいんで帰っていいですか、一回でも休むと優がもらえないと話す整。
そりゃ残念だったな、10時頃何してた？と質問する薮。
だから家に、と答える整に昼から順に聞こうか、明日も来てくれるかな、と薮。
存在意義
3日目、やってきた池本が朝からバタバタしててねまっててくれる？と言われる。
君に言われた通り、ゴミ捨てを1からやってみたよ、ヨメびっくりしてゴミ袋なくなりそうだから帰りに買ってくるよって言ったら泣き出しちゃって、そんなことがうれしいんですかね、でもなんかヨメが嬉しそうだとオレもなんか嬉しいなぁって、と笑う池本。
よかったですね、と真顔の整の所に風呂光も来て、私の存在意義ってなんですか、と質問する。
僕は常々人間が三種類いたらいいなと思ってて、男と女と別の種類が、全く違う思考回路の別の種族が同じ配分でいたらなぁって、意図を説明する整。
僕は偏見の塊でだいぶ無茶なこと言いますが、おじさんたちって、特に権力サイドにいる人たちって徒党を組んで悪事を働くんですよ、でもそこに女の人が一人混ざってるとおじさん達はやりにくいんですよ、と整。
悪事に加担してくれないから鉄の結束が乱れるから、でも女の人は群れで立ち上がったりしない、どれだけ虐げられても手を取り合って集団で戦ったりしない、だから個人だとおじさんたちに取り込まれたり脅されたり排除されてしまう、だからもう一種類あったらいいなぁっておじさん達が不正をしづらいように見張れる存在が、風呂光さんがいる意味ってそれじゃないですか、おじさん達を見張る位置、あなたは違ういきものでいてください、と話す整。
整の話に目から鱗の風呂光。
そこに薮が入ってきて果物ナイフは持ってるか、と聞かれる。
ありますけど全然使わないのでしまったまま、と答える整にそれを使ったってことか凶器が出た、お前の指紋がべったりついた果物ナイフだ、付着した血液が被害者のものと一致した、と告げる薮。
近所のコンビニ袋に入ってたがそっちにもお前の指紋がついてたよと言われた整は、僕はばかですか、うちにある指紋のついたナイフを使ってそれをぬぐいもせず手袋もせず寒河江を刺して素手で近所のコンビニの袋に入れて捨てたんですか、と言った。
そういうもんなんだよ、と告げられた薮に僕が僕のナイフを使って寒河江を殺した場合、誰かが僕のナイフとを盗んで手袋もして寒河江を殺した場合、この二つは結果が同じになりますその違いはどうやって見分けるんですか、と問う整の胸ぐらを掴み、物証はあがったんだ、お前がやった！お前がやったんだな！と迫る薮。
僕は記憶力がいい方なんです、このまま逮捕されて起訴されて裁判になったとしたら僕は喋ります、薮さんに何を言われどう手をかけられたか一言一句違わずに言えます、奥さんとお子さんの死に目に会えなかったんですか、と聞いた。
ああそうだよ、妻と11歳の息子が轢き逃げにあった、おととしの夏だ俺は張り込みで動けなかった、と話す薮に武勇伝なんですか、犯人は？と訊ねる整。
捕まってない、必ず捕まえる、おまえもな、と凄む薮に、だからやってませんと整。
令状がおりた、お前の家を捜索すると薮に言われて驚く整。
いきなり困りますよ！と訴える整に押入で大麻を栽培してるのか、ノートパソコンからやばい履歴が出るのか楽しみだな、と薮。
池本行くぞ、と言う薮にわたしも行きます勉強させてください、と風呂光。
じゃあ来いと言われてありがとうございますと頭を下げる風呂光。
思い出したこと
残った青砥がやったのかな、と聞いてきた。
そういえば青砥さん僕思い出しましたよ、貴方の顔を見たことあったんです、僕が中二の時、美容院の週刊誌で冤罪事件でやり玉にあがって叩かれてましたよね
その頃はもっと大きいところにいましたよん連続幼女誘拐殺人事件でしたっけ、無実の人を逮捕した、と言った整にほんとに記憶力がいいんだな、と青砥。
また冤罪事件を起こすんですかと言うと、冤罪じゃない俺は今でもあいつが犯人だと思ってる、奴の嘘を暴けなかったこちらの不手際だ、同じ案件では裁けないがいつか必ずあいつをあげてやる、君が殺しをやってるなら君もだ、どれだけ虚言を尽くしても真実は一つなんだからな、と告げる青砥。
真実は一つなんてそんなドラマみたいなセリフをほんとに言う人がいるなんて、と驚く青砥。
真実は一つなんかじゃないですよ、と告げる整に真実がふたつも三つもあったらおかしいだろうが、と訝しむ青砥。
真実は人の数だけあるんですよ、でも事実は一つです警察が調べるのはそこです人の真実なんかじゃない、真実というあやふやなものに囚われるから冤罪事件とか起こすのでは、と指摘する整。
青砥奴はどうした、と帰ってきた薮に聞かれた青砥は絶好調で喋ってますと答える。
ガサ入れはどうでした、と聞くと整のノートパソコンから寒河江から金を借りる借用書が出てきてことを話す薮。
人を煙に巻くのは終わりにしろ、金銭絡みで寒河江とうまくいかなくなりあの公園で口論して刺した、と問い詰める薮。
寒河江くんは確かに金のあるのを鼻にかけた嫌な奴だったんだろう、世間の評判は悪くないがお前は高校の時から嫌ってた、と話す薮に寒河江の事が苦手だったのは明るくて人気者だったからです、鼻にかけたというより気前がよかった貸す感じじゃ、と話す整にねたみがあったのか？羨ましかったか、女にもモテたんだろ、と畳み掛ける薮。
いつも高価なものを買ってもらってて高三の春なんか、と話していた整が何かに気づいた顔をする。
そのまま黙って考え込む整に今日は泊まってけ、と薮。
整の抵抗
4日目になり、池本が俺は君がやってないような気がして残念だったけどほんとのとこどうなの、と聞かれた整がまた奥さんとケンカしたんですか、と聞く。
そうなんだよ！何でか聞きたい？君の意見を聞きたいんだけど、と身を乗り出す池本。
悩み相談室じゃないんで、と答えた整は風呂光を呼んでほしいと頼む。
僕のうちの台所の引き出しに果物ナイフがあったかどうか、と聞いた風呂光はありませんでした凶器に使われたのでしょう、と答える。
僕の家の玄関の鍵にピッキングやこじ開けた跡があるかどうか、大家さんが僕の留守中に誰かいれてないか、大家さんのアリバイも調べてください、誰かが僕に罪を着せようとしているようなので抵抗します、と整。
整が指摘したことは何もされていなかった、と報告した風呂光は貴方の友達や彼女がこっそり持っていった可能性を指摘する。
しかし、整には友達も彼女もおらず、遊びに来たことがないと答えると、池本達は気の毒そうな顔をした。
風呂光さんもう一つ調べてください、一年前に家の鍵を落とした事があるが、間を置かず大学近くの交番に届いていたので事なきを得たんです、と話す整に拾った人が合鍵を作ったと、と風呂光。
たまたま鍵を拾った人がたまたま寒河江くんを殺したい人でたまたま君に罪を着せた？ないない！と否定する池本にたまたまじゃないってことです鍵はスリ取られたのかも、調べてください交番で僕の鍵を拾ったのは誰か、と整。
帰ってきた風呂光は驚きました久能さんの鍵を拾ったのは、と話を聞いた整はやっぱりそうでしたかではもう一つ、教えてください僕の部屋を捜索した時証拠を見つけたのは誰でしたか、と整。
風呂光の表情を見てそうですか、じゃあ風呂光さんもう一つお願いしたい事があります、と整は言った。
真犯人は？
5日目、そろそろ本格的に取り調べを始めようか必ず白状させてやるからなと告げる藪。
藪さん僕は思い出したことがあります、寒河江が高3の春免許を取ったことです、父親にとんでもなく高額な車をかってもらったと自慢してたことを、ところが夏休み明け彼は友達と話してたんです、模試の成績が下がったからって親父に取り上げられちまってーとおどけて話す寒河江。
おととしの夏です、僕の想像です、その夏寒河江は事故を起こした学校でもなんの噂にもなってなかった誰も知らない事故です、車はこっそり処分されたおそらく父親の手配で、と話す整に今は取り調べ中だぞ！と怒る青砥。
寒河江は人を轢いた、藪産の奥さんとお子さんをひいて逃げたんですね、と言った整と黙り込んでいる藪。
最初に違和感を覚えたのは僕が目撃者は皆さんのよく知ってる人かと聞いたときです、藪さんは息をのんだ、青砥さんの反応とは明らかに違いました、僕は知り合いなんだなと思いました、と話す整。
次にナイフが見つかったマンションのこと、あそこはうるさいばあさんがいて、と話していた藪の言葉を思い出し、「そこ」じゃなくて「あそこ」と言いましたね、そのおばあさんのことも知ってるんだなと思いました、そして僕の部屋を捜索するといったとき、どうして今どきうちに押し入れとノートパソコンがあると言い切れるんだろうと思いました、僕の部屋に入ったことがあったからなんですね、と整。
調べてもらいました、僕の鍵を交番に届けたのは藪さんです、合鍵を作り僕の部屋に侵入して僕の果物ナイフを盗んだ、それで寒河江を殺したんですね、ご家族の復讐のために、と整。
ハ、と笑った藪がお前はなにを、と言うとやっぱり笑うんですね、ドラマでよく見るんですよ殺人の疑いをかけられた時、無実の人は怒って真犯人は笑うんです、そんなことないだろうと思ってたけどそういうものなんですね、寒河江は認めましたかひき逃げを、と質問する整。
藪さん何も言うな、と青砥が止めるが、認めなかったよ、と藪。
何も言うな！と怒鳴る青砥に寒河江は認めなかったよそれどころか、自分の身内には有力者がたくさんいるおまえなんかどうとでも消せる金がほしいならやるから二度と顔を見せるな、ってさそれでつい、と寒河江を刺したことを思い出す藪。
認めて謝れば生かしてしょっぴいて来たんだけどね、と話す藪にナイフを用意しといて、と指摘する整。
お前の鍵を拾わなきゃこんなことは考えなかったさ、僕のせいですか、奴を見に大学に行ったとき、お前はやつと会釈してたそのあと鍵を落としたんだよ、どう使うかは考えてなかったが、一応型をとったそれを見てるうちにいろいろと考えちまってなぁ、その合鍵でお前の家に入り、果物ナイフとコンビニ袋を盗み、ノートパソコンに証拠をいれて目撃者を用意した、後悔はしてないよ妻も息子も喜んでくれるだろう、と藪。
復讐よりもすること
青砥すまんな、あとを頼む、と出ていこうとする藪に復讐は楽しかったですか、と声をかける整。
なんだと？と振り返る藪に刑事の仕事に命をかけて家族を顧みず家にはほとんど帰らなかった、おそらく息子さんの行事にも何一つ参加してないんでしょう、ひき逃げにあった時も病院にかけつけなかった、と整。
怖かったんですよね死に目にあうのが、現実を見るのが怖かった刑事としての藪さんの代わりはいくらでもいるのにそこは無視した、それほど大事だった刑事という仕事を復讐のためなら捨てられるんですね、復讐のためなら時間を作れたんですか、膨大な時間と努力が要ったはずです、しかもそれは仕事とは別だった、死に目にかけつける時間はなくてもその時間はとれたんですね、と語る整。
なぜなら仕事と復讐のベクトルは同じだから藪さんにとってやりがいのあることだった、でも生きてる時の家族に関わることにはやりがいを見いだせなかったんでしょう、生涯で息子さんの名前を何回呼びましたか、と問う。
奥さんと息子さんが喜んでくれると言いましたけどそうでしょうか？僕が子供ならこう思う、お父さんなんだか楽しそうだね、あんなに忙しい忙しいって言ってたのに刑事の仕事は何より大事でそのために全てを犠牲にしてきたのに、お父さんが忙しい忙しいって言ってたのは僕たちに会いたくなかったからで、僕たちが死んだらもう忙しくなくなったんだねって、と整。
その瞬間、久能おおお！と叫んだ薮が整に掴みかかった。
おまえなんかに何がわかるんだ、お前も寒河江と一緒だチャラチャラしてえらそうで親の脛齧ってぼんやり生きてるだけのくせに、命を削って働いたこともない妻や子を持ったこともないお前に何がわかるんだ！と叫ぶ薮。
わかりませんよ、薮さんの真実は薮さんにしかわからないし僕の真実は僕にしかわからない、僕は子供を持ったことはないですが、子供だったことはあります、親になったら忘れてしまうのかもしれませんが、僕は今子供の立場でものを言ってます、と整。
それを聞いた薮は唸りながら泣き崩れる。
もう一つ思い出したことがあります、夏休み明け寒河江が言ってたことです、車のことを聞かれた寒河江は部活の先輩に貸してばっかで全然乗ってなかったからいいけどさ、と言った。
寒河江が運転してたんでしょうか、ひき逃げは寒河江がしたんでしょうか、寒河江は金を貸してたって言ってましたよね、借用書が出たんですか、と聞くと乙部がメモだ、イニシャルと金額だけ、細かい金額が何年にも渡ってた、と話す。
じゃあそれは貸したんじゃなく脅し取られてたのかもしれないですね、部活の先輩たちに金を脅し取られて車を勝手に乗り回されていたかもしれない、そんな噂はきいたことないですが、僕は知らない寒河江がどんな人間かアイツの真実はわからない、と話す整。
その時風呂光が戻ってきて、風呂光見つかったか！と池本が聞くと、はい、久能さんに頼まれて寒河江さんの高校時代の部活の先輩という人たちに当たりました、その中一人自分が寒河江さんの車で人をひいたと話した人がいました、驚くほどあっさり、寒河江さんが殺されたので怖くなって自首を考えたそうです、おととしの夏、薮さんの奥さんとお子さんをひき逃げした人です、今わたしときました！この署に来てます！と風呂光。
遅くにうまれた子で、こんなじいさんが参観日に行ったら恥ずかしいだろうと思った、と話す薮にそういうことも話さないと本人には伝わらないです、と整。
薮さん蠍座ですか、11月生まれですねネクタイピンがトパーズだ、ネクタイの色も毎日赤紫や臙脂がメインで蠍座の色ですね、奥さんのプレゼントですか、服の下に腹巻をしてる足首にもウォーマーをしてる新しくない、奥さんが用意してくれたんでしょう、奥さんはあなたの無事を祈り身体を心配してた、あなたはそれを逆にしたことがありましたか、奥さんの好きな花を仏壇やお墓に飾ってあげてますか、お子さんの好きな食べ物を供えてあげてますか、そもそも知ってますか、復讐じゃなくそういうことに時間を使いましたか、と整。

マスコミにお前のことは流していない、と青砥が言うと青砥さんが止めてたんですよね、と池本。
最初からお前がやったとは思えなかったとにかく二度と来るな！と怒鳴る青砥。
二度と呼ばないでください、と答えた整。
整を見送りながら、あいつずっと自分の父親への恨みを話してるようだったな、お前もおじさんになるんだぞ、と青砥は言った。
整は雪の中息を吐いて歩いて行った。
