恭平はエリカに操られて、灰原の首を力強く締めている。
恭平自身も今すぐやめたいが、エリカに操られている今、自分が自分じゃないから自分の側を離れるように美空に言った。
エリカの暴走は止まることを知らず、灰原を殺した後は恭平が自分自身を殺すように指示した。
さすがにここまでされて、美空は黙っていることが出来なかった。
エリカの近くへ向かうと、エリカは美空に今どんな気分？と聞いてきた。
エリカは美空の答えを待たずに自分のことを話してきた。
美空のことを見ていたら、自分も柴に愛されたいと思ってしまったことを。
だが気持ちを伝えたら全然ダメだった。
美空に出会わなければこんな感情、知らなくて済んだのにと苦しんでいる様子だった。
だから灰原と恭平の2人を殺せば、美空が愛されることはなくなるし、美空が愛を伝えることもできない。
そうエリカは考えたのだった。
中身は子供
美空は今まで静かにエリカの話を聞いていたが、このまま自分が取り乱したらエリカの思う壺だと思い、エリカのことをあえて挑発した。
柴と何があったのか知らないけど、八つ当たりもいいところだし、私たちが消えたらあんたは幸せになれると思っているの？と。
美空は灰原から、エリカは見た目が大人でも中身は子供のままだと聞いていたため、エリカの胸ぐらを掴み説教をした。
自分が愛せば相手も愛してくれるなんて、そんな都合のいい話はない。
そんなんだから柴にも愛想つかれるんだと言い放った。
過去の記憶
エリカはその言葉に動揺したのか、恭平を操ることをさえ忘れ震え出した。
私のこの気持ちが愛じゃないなんてありえないと。
そして過去の記憶と顔なし鬼が交互に頭の中に浮かんできてのだ。
エリカはしばらく呆然としていたが、突然悲鳴をあげ頭を抱え込んだのだった。
