翔の初恋をからかう
髪を切った理由が陸上部のキャプテンに一目惚れしたためだと流華にバラされた翔は、大輔達に部活をサボった見に行くかとからかわれる。
相手が3年生で陸上部のキャプテンであり中学記録保持者だ。
と説明すると、相手が高校に入学したら一気に注目を受けてかけるなんて眼中に無いだろう、とバッサリ言われ凹む。
これから頑張ればいい、と意気込むものの、孝弥に今から1から頑張ってオリンピック候補選手になるのか？とバッサリ切り捨てりる。
エルにしても翔にしても一目惚れが多いねと雅博が言うと、翔は運命的に出会うようになってるのかなと言う。
大輔と孝弥は自分たちにもチャンスはあるな！と笑い合うのだった。
教室に入った翔はクラスメイトたちから髪を切ったことを褒められる。
女に言われて髪を切るなんて情けない男だ。
と雅博に言われて翔は怒ったが、ふと安住自身も長髪なんだから人のことを言える立場じゃないのでは、と気づくのだった。
翔の告白と玉砕
流華たちは部活の時間にそれぞれ抜け出し、陸上部の様子を伺っていた。
練習中、翔は安住に話しかけて自分の変化になにか気づかないかと聞く。
安住は翔が髪を切ったことに気づいたものの、髪を切ったくらいで練習の邪魔をしないでと冷たくあしらう。
翔は安住は秒を争うスポーツなのに髪を切らないのかと聞く。
部長が止めるのも聞かず問いかける翔に、安住は5歳上の姉が癌で亡くなり、抗がん剤治療で全身の毛が抜けた姿を見た安住。
同じような人達にカツラを作る運動に協力するために髪を伸ばしていると説明する。
翔は安住の話を聞いて、ますます好きになったから付き合ってください！と告白する。
驚く安住と、翔の告白のタイミングに頭を抱える流華達をよそに、翔は無神経で年下だけど自分じゃダメですか？と安住に聞く。
安住は翔の告白をくだらないと切り捨て、自分の練習に戻れと言う。
食い下がる翔だったが、もうかまわないで！と安住から拒絶されショックを受けるのだった。
翔は流華達の元に駆け寄り、どうしようと相談する。
大輔に謝ることを提案されるが、翔はますます好きになるからと困惑する。
懲りないやつと流華たちは笑って部活へと戻って行き、翔は部長からフォームの指導を受けるのだった。
間近に迫るワルカとの別れ
翔と流華が家に戻ると、ワルカを獣医が診察しているところだった。
祖母は流華と翔に、ワルカがもう長くないことを説明する。
まだ13歳なのに、と驚く流華に祖母はワルカのような犬なら13歳は立派なおばあちゃんだ、と説明する。
ワルカは自分たちの兄弟なのに、なんでもっと早く教えてくれなかったのか。
と聞く流華と翔に祖母は1度説明したけど、2人がその事を忘れていただけでしょうと言う。
心当たりのある2人は言い返せなかった。
ワルカに駆け寄るとワルカはしっぽを振って2人を迎える。
祖母は、ワルカは苦しんでいるところを見せないようにしている、と2人に教える。
流華と翔は泣いてワルカを抱きしめ、これからは一緒に寝て自分たちがお世話すると宣言する。
ワルカのご飯のためにお肉を買いに行こうとする流華に祖母が大丈夫かと聞く。
流華は泣きながらわからないよというのだった。
肉屋で岩崎にあった流華は、ワルカがもう長くないことを説明し一緒に餌を選んでもらう。
肉を買って帰る流華の背中を見送り、尚子が子供たちにワルカを託したのは、自分でどうにもならないことがある。
と教えたかったのかと気付き、涙を流すのだった。
帰宅したトビオは双子の様子を聞き、2人がワルカと一緒に寝るために居た尚子の部屋へ向かった。
ワルカはもう立てなくなってしまい、自分でトイレも出来なくなっていた。
ベッドを寄せて自分たちもワルカと一緒に寝ると翔と流華はごねるが、祖母に状況は変わらないと諭される。
学校に行っている間は自分がワルカの面倒を見るからと祖母に言われ、こんな状況で学校になんていけないと双子は言い返す。
トビオはワルカがそんなことを望んでいるのか。
と双子に言い聞かせ、ワルカを不安にさせたくないなら学校に行く義務を果たしなさいと言う。
泣いてしまう翔と流華を抱きしめたトビオはつらい気持ちがとてもよくわかると二人を慰める。
ワルカにオムツをつけてあげながら流華は祖母にワルカが死ぬことが怖いと言う。
祖母は当然だと頷いた。
翌朝、ワルカのオムツを変えるとそこには黒く柔らかい便があった。
トビオはワルカの世話を終えた双子を心配さえ無いよう笑顔で任せろ。
と言って二人を学校へ送り出す。
祖母はトビオにワルカの便がタール便と呼ばれるもので、そうやると一週間も持たない。
と言われていると説明した。
学校へ登校した双子は、元気がないと心配する孝弥たちに、ワルカがもう長くないと説明する。
当分部活に参加できない、と伝えるために部長に伝えに行く翔と流華に、孝弥たちは夜にお見舞いに行ってもいいかと聞く。
流華はきっと喜ぶから来てやってと言った。
陸上部の部長は犬が死にそうだから部活に来ないなんてと翔の休みに反対した。
翔は、ワルカは自分たちと一緒に育った兄弟のような存在だからと説明する。
たまたま聞いていた安住が部長に、かけるにとっては大切な家族なんだろうと説得する。
もう助からないのか？と聞いた安住は翔の表情から答えを察し、しっかり看取ってあげられるといいわねと言う。
翔は安住にありがとうごいざますと礼を言った。
